Baltimore police on Friday identified the officers involved in a shooting earlier this week in Northwest Baltimore.
A 23-year-old man remains hospitalized after he was shot in the face Sunday after officers said he was weilding a gun after a car crash.
The crash occurred just before 10 a.m. at W. Belevedere and St. Charles avenues. Police were tipped off that a man had a gun, police said, and he ran from the crash. Officers chased him on foot three blocks to the 5200 block of Eleanora Avenue. Police said he ran into a garage as two people ran out.
Shots were fired and police said the man was shot in the face. A gun was recovered at the scene but police did not say if it had been fired.
The suspect was taken to a hospital. Police said Friday he remains in stable condition. They have not released his identity or whether he will be charged with a crime. No officers were injured.
Four officers involved have been assigned to administrative duties, police said. None have been involved in prior shootings, the department said. Police did not identify which officer shot the suspect or how many fired a gun.
The officers involved are: Sgt. Alfredo Santiago, 38, a member of the agency since 2006; Officer Lane Eskins, 43, a member of BPD since 2001; Officer Catherine Filippou, 25, a member of the department since 2010; Officer Israel Lopez, 25, a member of the force since 2012.
Police say its Force Investigation Unit continues to investigate the incident.
