City officer shoots, injures man with gun, police say

Baltimore police say an officer on patrol shot and critically injured an armed man just before 1 a.m. Tuesday in the Northwest District.

According to police, the officer was patrolling in the 3900 block of Carlisle Ave. in the Windsor Hills neighborhood when he approached a man who was armed with a handgun. The officer fired at least once and the suspect was hit at least once, police spokesman Detective Kevin Brown said in a news release.

The man was taken to an area hospital and is listed in critical but stable condition. A handgun was recovered at the scene. The officer was not harmed.

Police officials plan to hold a briefing Tuesday morning to provide additional details.
