Baltimore police officer rushed to hospital after having 'medical emergency' while on patrol

A city police officer was rushed to a hospital Sunday afternoon after experiencing a “medical emergency” in West Baltimore, police confirmed.

The incident occurred while the Western District patrol officer, whose name was not released, had been patrolling in the 2500 block of W. Franklin St., a few blocks from the West Baltimore MARC Station, about 1:18 p.m., said Detective Nicole Monroe, a police department spokeswoman.

“The officer is conscious and alert and was transported to an area hospital for treatment,” Monroe said in a statement.

Police did not respond to a question about the nature of the medical emergency, and did not release any other details about the incident.
