A Baltimore man was sentenced Friday to 40 years in prison in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man nearly two years ago, police said.
Anthony Brown, 27, pleaded guilty in Baltimore Circuit Court to first-degree murder and a handgun charge, according to the city state's attorney's office. Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams sentenced Brown to life in prison, suspending all but 40 years, and five years of probation.
Brown was arrested Oct. 18, 2011, a week after Louis Ingram was found lying in the 1800 block N. Port St. with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Paramedics pronounced Ingram, whose last known address was 4800 block Gilray Drive, dead at the scene, according to police. He was 24.
Witnesses told police they saw the two men arguing and Brown shoot Ingram, according to the state's attorney's office. Detectives recovered a .38 revolver with one spent shell casing from a home in the 1700 block N. Milton Ave., not far from the scene of the shooting. Another witness said Brown had discarded the gun there and admitted to having killed the victim. Detectives and the Warrant Apprehension Task Force caught Brown in the 700 block of S. Central Ave. after a brief vehicle pursuit, police said.
