Firefighter injured, three cats dead in Mount Vernon blaze

A Baltimore firefighter was injured and three cats died in a blaze at a Mount Vernon rowhome Thursday morning, the Fire Department said.

The fire was reported at 8:30 a.m. at the three-story home in the 1200 block of North Calvert Street, and responding firefighters arrived to find fire showing from the second and third floor of the home, department spokeswoman Blair Skinner said.

One firefighter had non-life-threatening injuries. His name was not released.

The Fire Department called animal control upon finding three cats dead inside the building, Skinner said.

The fire was brought under control in about a half hour, and the cause is under investigation, she said.
