More than 100 local organizations were awarded grants Saturday for special events in a program hosted by the Baltimore Office of Promotion.
At an announcement hosted by the promotions office and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, 103 neighborhood associations and community-based nonprofits received grants of up to $1,000. The MECU Neighborhood Event Grants can be used to support special events such as festivals, fairs and block parties.
Recipients of the grants included the Arcadia Improvement Association, Baltimore Child Abuse Center, Fishes & Loaves Pantry Inc., Living Classrooms Foundation, Skatepark of Baltimore Inc. and the Village Farmers' Market.
The program is supported by MECU and the Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development, and administered by BOPA. The promotions office hosts a workshop each year as part of the program to provide organizers with information to help their events be successful, including discussions of city services and the permit process.
