Woman found dead at McCulloh Homes

Baltimore Police were awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death for a 54-year-old woman found dead in a stairwell of a building within McCulloh Homes.

The woman, who was not immediately identified, was found at about 8:40 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene. Police spokesman Det. Jeremy Silbert said there were no signs of foul play and the medical examiner's office will determine a cause of death.

The discovery occurred less than two hours before Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and City Schools CEO Gregory Thornton canvassed McCulloh Homes, encouraging "vulnerable families" to sign up early for pre-K and kindergarten.

A news release from the mayor's office said thousands of slots are available for priority placement students, but many go unfilled each year due to lack of awareness about early registration. Children who turn four or five years old by Sept. 1 can register for pre-K or kindergarten programs beginning April 20.
