A small fire was extinguished by staff at a downtown corrections facility Friday morning, according to a corrections spokesman.
Several city fire trucks and ambulances responded to the high-rise corrections facility, called the Maryland Reception, Diagnostic and Classification Center, on the corner of Madison Street and Greenmount Avenue.
An armed guard stood on Madison Street, keeping watch while a gate behind the tower was open.
The fire "was put out by our staff, but the fire department responded as a precaution, which is routine," said state corrections spokesman Mark A. Vernarelli in an email.
