Gunfire in East Baltimore Monday night prompted a lockdown of the Johns Hopkins Medical campus, but no victim or suspect was found, police said.
Officers were called to the 1700 block of E. Monument St., where the gunshots were heard at about 8:30 p.m. Police flooded the campus but found no active shooter, spokesman Detective Jeremy Silbert said. No one was injured.
The alert, emailed and texted from Johns Hopkins Medicine, said: "Gun shots were fired on the East Baltimore campus. Shelter in place in an area with a locked or blocked door. Wait for further instructions."
"Situation on 1700 Monument is all clear," a follow-up alert said. "BPD is on the scene."
The lockdown was called for "out of an abundance of caution," a Hopkins spokeswoman said in an emailed statement:
"At approximately8:30pma shot was fired in the street at Monument Street and Rutland Avenue," spokeswoman Kim Hoppe wrote. "Employees were asked to shelter in place out of an abundance of caution. The scene was cleared shortly after9:00pm. There were no reported injuries. Baltimore City Police are pursuing the suspect."
Police said they found "evidence that someone had fired a gun" but no suspect, victims or property damage.
Monument was closed from Broadway to Rutland Avenue as officers investigated Monday night.
