An Annapolis man has been charged in the killing of a 51-year-old man in South Baltimore’s Brooklyn neighborhood last week, police said.
Douglas Cantrell, 53, of the 1100 block of Bayview Vista Drive, was arrested and charged with the murder of Vernon Jacobs in the 3500 block of Helmstetter St. about 7 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
Jacobs lived in the 400 block of Maude Ave. His family could not be reached for comment Monday.
Homicide detectives interviewed witnesses after the killing, and Cantrell was identified as a suspect, police said. He was still in the area, and he was taken to police headquarters, then Baltimore City Central Booking.
Cantrell is charged with first- and second-degree murder and is being held without bail.
A member of Cantrell’s family declined to comment Monday. The Office of the Public Defender, which is representing him, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
