Police investigating fatal shooting on Liberty Heights Friday morning

A 51-year-old man dies after shooting on Liberty Heights Ave. Friday morning, police said.

A 51-year old man was fatally shot outside his home on Liberty Heights Avenue early Friday, Baltimore police said.

Police identified him on Monday as Mark Nicholson, who lived in the 3400 block of Liberty Heights.

Officers were called at 3:25 a.m. on Nicholson's block for a report of a shooting, where they found the victim who had been shot multiple times. He was taken to area hospital where he later died.

Mid-Friday morning, two homicide detectives went door-to-door on the block looking for witnesses. Nicholson lived in a white home in the block that had two bunny-shaped lawn ornaments and a red Christmas bow hanging from the front door. Neighbors said he lived alone and was congenial.

Nicholson sometimes shoveled the snow from his neighbors walkways after he shoveled his own, a neighbor said.

"He was a nice outstanding guy, always helped people when he could," said the neighbor who declined to provide his name because a suspect has not been arrested.

Nicholson was shot outside his home; blood marked a street light pole just outside of it. Across Liberty Heights Avenue from the crime scene is the United House of Prayer for All People church. Neighbors said they rarely see violence in the neighborhood.

Homicide detectives have no suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call 410-396-2100.
