West Franklin Street in Baltimore will be closed between Park Avenue and Eutaw Street for about a month beginning Aug. 24 due to sewer repairs, the Department of Public Works announced Monday.

The closure of one of the city's main east-west arteries will make way for crews to excavate for a bypass sewer following a July 4 Mulberry Street sewer collapse, the department said.

Other streets closed in the area include: West Centre Street between Cathedral Street and Park Avenue; westbound Saratoga Street between North Greene Street and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard; and West Mulberry Street between Greene and Paca streets.

The department asked drivers to take alternate routes, such as Lombard, Pratt and Fayette streets or North Avenue.
