Firefighter collapses while responding to Harwood blaze

A Baltimore firefighter was hospitalized Wednesday night after he collapsed while responding to a one-room blaze in Harwood, fire officials said.

He was initially reported to have fallen through the floor of the home in the 400 block of Ilchester Ave., but Baltimore Fire Department spokesman Capt. Roman Clark said he "went down to the floor."

Clark did not characterize the injuries or provide any information on the firefighter's condition. He said the firefighter was "alert and conscious" on his way to the hospital.

The fire was extinguished shortly after firefighters were called to the scene, and the damage was contained to the one room, Clark said.
