It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured.

Residents and neighbors stood outside watching fire crews walk through the burned homes. Two people embraced while crying.

One homeowner’s granddaughter, Nia Brown, was able to survey the damage inside her family’s home after the fire. The house had significant damage, but Brown was optimistic her grandparents’ home could be repaired.

“I was frantic at first because I didn't really know what to expect, but the damage looks manageable,” she said. “It's just going to take some time.”

The family has another property in Maryland to stay at tonight, Brown said.

“We're just happy that everyone's alive and that things weren't as bad as they could have been,” she said. “Of course, we're sad that it happened but we're happy that if it was going to happen it happened in a way that didn't affect anyone's livelihood.”
