A 67-year-old woman injured during a blaze in East Baltimore earlier this month has died, city fire department officials said Friday.
Regina Harrison–Frazier died after an early morning fire at 537 N. Patterson Park Ave. in the McElderry Park neighborhood on June 2, said fire department spokesman Samuel Johnson Jr.
Johnson said Harrison-Frazier died June 6, but the department wasn't notified of her death until this week.
Firefighters were called at 4:49 a.m. June 2 to the one-alarm blaze and placed it under control at 5:08 a.m. Johnson said the cause of the fire and whether the home had working smoke detectors, remains under investigation. Officials had initially identified the victim in the blaze as a man.
On Saturday, the fire department will offer to install 10-year lithium tamper-resistant battery smoke alarm to city residents during a "Smoke Alarm Sweep" event.
Baltimore has had five fire fatalities so far this year, Chief Niles Ford said in a statement.
"That number is significantly lower than our 2014 total which was 17 deaths, but it still exceeds our goal of zero fire deaths each year. As an organization we believe that by building sustainable community partnerships and providing public education about the importance of fire safety we can make that goal achievable," Ford said.
