Smoking materials ignite home fire in Northeast Baltimore

Smoking materials sparked a fire in a Northeast Baltimore home Wednesday morning, the city's fire department said.

The Baltimore City Fire Department responded around 11:15 a.m. to the 6000 block of Walther Ave. in the Glenham-Belhar neighborhood, where fire was shooting from the first floor of a two-story home.

The fire spread throughout the semi-detached home, but was contained to the original unit, fire spokesman Samuel Johnson said in a statement.

No injuries were reported, but one family has been displaced by the fire, Johnson said.

Damage was estimated at $75,000, according to the fire department.
