Three firefighters were injured while responding to a fire at a vacant rowhome in West Baltimore Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were called at 10:31 a.m. to 205 S. Stricker Street, near Pratt Street, in the Union Square neighborhood, where they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the first floor, said fire department spokesman Samuel Johnson.
Three firefighters suffered non life-threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital, Johnson said. No civilian injuries were reported, he said.
One fire crew member was taken away in a stretcher at around 11:30 a.m., but was conscious and talking to his colleagues. Several firefighters remained on the roof and used a chain saw to cut through to the ceiling of the third floor, while several bystanders huddled under umbrellas and watched from across the street.
The cause remains under investigation.
