Embers from large blaze catch wind, set more fires in East Baltimore

A three-alarm fire collapsed part of a warehouse at Aisquith Street and Curtain Avenue, sending embers into the wind and setting six more blazes across East Baltimore Sunday, the Fire Department said.

The department escalated the fire to three alarms roughly 20 minutes after units arrived at 3:30 p.m. and were aided by crews from Baltimore, Howard, Anne Arundel and Harford counties as they responded to flames in five vacant homes and a church. The cause of the initial fire is under investigation.

Baltimore Office of Emergency Management, in a post on Twitter, urged motorists to avoid the area of Kirk and Curtain Avenues in the East Baltimore Midway neighborhood just north of Green Mount Cemetery.

The Baltimore Firefighters Union said crews were also responding to residential fires in the 1500 block of E. North Avenue and the 1500 block of Lanvale Ave.
