A Baltimore firefighter received minor injuries Friday morning while battling a one-alarm rowhouse fire near Edmondson Village in West Baltimore.
The fire was reported at 8:48 a.m. in the basement of a two-story, end-of-group home in the 4200 block of Colborne Road, in Rognel Heights. It was declared under control 31 minutes later, according to Andrew Doyle of the Baltimore Firefighters Union Local 734. Two occupants were in the dwelling but got out unharmed, he said.
Fire Department spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright said firefighters found "heavy smoke and fire" in the house and worked to confine the fire to the building where it started. An adjacent dwelling received minimal damage, he said.
The injured firefighter was burned on one ear and was treated on the scene before he was taken to Johns Hopkins-Bayview Burn Center, Cartwright said. The injury was not considered life-threatening.
In all, 42 firefighters and 17 pieces of apparatus were on the scene, according to Doyle. A minor accident was reported when a fire engine struck a car near the dwelling, Doyle said.
The cause of the fire and an estimate of the damages remain under investigation, according to Cartwright.
