Baltimore landfill closed amid FBI investigation

Baltimore's landfill closed Tuesday amid a federal investigation, authorities said.

The city's Federal Bureau of Investigations spokeswoman Amy Thoreson confirmed the agency's presence at the Hawkins Point dump in the 6100 block of Quarantine Road, but she would not comment on the reason.

Department of Public Works spokesman Jeffrey Raymond referred questions about the investigation to the FBI.

Raymond said the landfill would reopen at its normal time — 8 a.m., with drop-offs beginning at 9 — on Wednesday.

The landfill is one of eight drop-off centers in the city. According to the public works department's website, at least three of the others accept recyclable items, but the landfill is the only one that accepts construction waste.
