25-year-old man shot, killed near Morgan State University

A 25-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday night on a street in Northeast Baltimore, near the Northwood Shopping Center and in front of an off-campus dorm near Morgan State University, according to city police.

The shooting occurred about 9:10 p.m. in the 4300 block of Loch Raven Blvd., in Original Northwood. Police said that detectives believe the victim was walking in an alley behind houses when he was confronted by a gunman and chased to the 4100 block of Loch Raven, where he was shot.

Police said the victim, identified as Santos Villanueva, of the 7000 block of Surrey Drive in Northwest Baltimore, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:15 p.m. from at least one gunshot wound to the chest. Police did not have a motive and no arrests have been made.

The shooting occurred near a Morgan State University dorm, Marble Hall Gardens, which the school advertises is for upperclassman who want to experience living in an apartment-like setting but still be close to campus.

A spokesman for Morgan State said the victim was not a student or connected to the university.
