A man and a woman were killed and a third person was injured in a two-alarm fire early Wednesday in the Brooklyn neighborhood of South Baltimore, fire officials said.
Firefighters who were called to the 800 block of Pontiac Ave. just after 1 a.m. found the two-story brick house with heavy fire showing from the first and second floors, department spokesman Samuel Johnson said.
Told people might be trapped inside, they searched and found the man and woman, both in their 60s, Johnson said. Their names were not released.
No firefighters were injured, Johnson said. He said a woman who was outside the home when the fire started was hit by a projectile and was taken to the hospital. Her condition was not immediately available.
Johnson said firefighters brought the blaze under control by 2 a.m. The cause remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross of the Greater Chesapeake Region said it was providing food, clothing, shoes and transportation to those affected by the fire.
