One person was killed during a fire that started about 9:20 p.m. in the northwest Baltimore neighborhood of Arlington, a fire official said.
The fire started in a garage behind a vacant, two-story brick home in the 5200 block of Elmer Ave., said Chief Kevin Cartwright, a spokesman for the Baltimore City Fire Department.
The body was found burned in the garage, and the sex of the victim could not be immediately identified, he said.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, which had briefly extended to the vacant house. No one else was injured, Cartwright said.
An investigation is under way to determine the fire's cause, he said.
