CSX train travel was suspended in Baltimore on Sunday afternoon as area firefighters worked to put out multiple brush fires along a broad stretch of the track in East Baltimore.
Either three or four freight trains were delayed by the fire, says CSX spokesman Bob Rohauer.
The fires were first reported around 3 p.m. along Kirk Avenue in Coldstream Homestead Montebello, according to Rohauer. Three hours later, Rohauer said, "it sounds like things are getting under control."
The railroad sent a representative to assist the fire department in its response. A CSX-marked vehicle could be seen on the tracks Sunday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Baltimore Fire Department did not immediately respond to request for comment Sunday, but firefighters from Baltimore and Baltimore County used hoses to douse the flames that rose from discarded logs and bushes along the track.
