Homicide detectives investigating body pulled from water in Harbor East

Police said detectives found no obvious signs of foul play in the case of a man whose body was found in the Baltimore harbor on Tuesday morning.

The man was identified as Douglas Paige, 58, of the 800 block of S. Caroline Street. His body was found steps from his home in a strip of water near docks in Harbor East on Tuesday morning. Homicide detectives were on the scene investigating.

Detective Brandon Echevarria, a police spokesman, said the man's death and how he got into the water was still under investigation.

City liquor board chairman Stephan Fogleman said that the dead man is not the Douglas Paige who serves as a spokesman for the board.

The body was spotted near docks along Lancaster Street, close to where it intersects with S. Central Avenue, Echevarria said. Officers were dispatched to the scene about 10:06 a.m.

The waterfront stretch along Lancaster Street is a popular nightlife destination, home to several restaurants such as RA Sushi Bar and Gordon Biersch.

The water there is largely separated from the Inner Harbor by piers where boats are docked.
