Two men died Sunday after a vehicle struck a tree in Northwest Baltimore.
The Baltimore Police Department wrote in a news release that officers received a call at 7:45 a.m. for a report of a crash in the area of the 5000 block of W. Northern Parkway, but the responding officer was unable to find the crashed vehicle. A witness in the area said he hadn’t seen anything since he arrived there at 6 a.m.
But sometime around 8:45 a.m., officers found an Acura sedan that had crashed into a tree in some nearby woods. The driver and passenger, a 28-year-old and 30-year-old, were seriously injured in the crash and later died at the hospital, the department wrote.
The driver crossed over Liberty Heights Avenue and struck the tree, police said in a statement.
The time of the accident generated some confusion and continues to be investigated. Initially, police said that the crash occurred at around 8:45 a.m. However, after The Baltimore Sun raised questions about an earlier call of a crash in the same area, the department put out a corrected release explaining that an officer was unable to find the crash.
The department is now investigating whether the crash occurred overnight. Anyone with information is asked to call 410-396-2606.
