Baltimore police investigating kidnapping of woman as hoax

Tynika Claudette Perry A.K.A. “Nika”

The supposed kidnapping of a 28-year-old Baltimore woman Tuesday afternoon is being investigated as a hoax after she was found, police said.

Tynika Claudette "Nika" Perry sent a text message saying she was kidnapped, and her supposed kidnappers demanded money from her family, police said.

Officers searched through the night and announced Wednesday evening that she was found unharmed and was in police custody.

The case was "frustrating" and "many police resources" were used to find her, said T.J. Smith, a police spokesman.

Officers had considered her critically missing.

Perry, of the 2300 block of W. North Ave., vanished Tuesday afternoon, after she was dropped off near Belair Road and Emley Avenue, police said.

The last contact she made with anyone was Tuesday night, when she said she was at a Taco Bell restaurant at North Highland Avenue and East Fayette Street.

Police said charges are possible in the case.
