New C&O Canal Park superintendent named

Tina M. Cappetta, a former top official at the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park who is now based in Baltimore, will be its next superintendent.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that the National Park Service announced Friday that Cappetta will take over the role following the current superintendent’s retirement. She will begin the assignment Jan. 21.

Cappetta is the superintendent of the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, Hampton National Historic Site and Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail, a position she has held since 2011.

She was previously the chief of resources management at the C&O Canal, which stretches over 180 miles along the route of the Potomac River between Cumberland and the nation’s capital.
