Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori is asking the archdiocese's 154 parishes to hold collections for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts during Masses this weekend.

"This emergency collection will be used to support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral and rebuilding support," Lori wrote in the letter sent Tuesday.

Catholic schools were also asked to participate in a collection once classes start, the archdiocese said.

The Category 4 hurricane battered southeast Texas, dumping record rainfall and killing at least 22 people. It is expected to hit southwestern Louisiana on Wednesday.
