Alaina Ciara High, 22, was found about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 23 in the 800 block of S. Bouldin St. with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Witnesses reported hearing the shots and saw a dark-colored vehicle leave the scene. A police source said that High might have been pushed from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
High's last known address was in the 2800 block of E. Biddle St., about two miles from the site of the shooting, and court records show she had been arrested four times in the past six months on drug charges, the most recent arrest coming a week before she was killed. Contacted by phone, relatives said they were too grief-stricken to talk about High and her death.
Police also said that two men who were shot last week have died. David Eugene Woodward, 30, was shot in a grocery store at North Fremont Avenue and Bennett Place about 5 p.m. Dec. 23, according to Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Christmas Day. Woodward, of the 1200 block of Myrtle Ave., did not appear to have any convictions or recent arrests on his record.
A woman who identified herself as Woodward's mother said that he was a former Marine who had been working at an Inner Harbor restaurant. She declined further comment.
Edgar Christopher Mazyck, 39, died Sunday after being shot at Edmondson Discount Mart in the 2700 block of Edmondson Ave., Monroe said. Mazyck left the store and was shot by an unknown assailant as he walked back inside. He was found in the store's vestibule and was taken to a hospital, where he died just before 6 p.m. Sunday.
Mazyck, of the 4200 block of Seidel Ave., was on probation for possession of a deadly weapon at the time of his death, police said.
Police had no suspects and knew of no motives for the shootings.
