Navy SEAL with Maryland ties is killed in Iraq

A Navy SEAL who lived for a time in Charles County was killed last week in Iraq, the Navy said.

Chief Petty Officer Michael E. Koch, 29, formerly of La Plata, died Feb. 4 of wounds suffered from small-arms fire during combat, the Navy said.

He graduated from Maurice J. McDonough High School in Pomfret in 1996. Koch enlisted in the Navy in 1998 and began SEAL training the next year.
