Baltimore police who stormed a home they had surrounded last night found a woman shot to death and a man who had apparently tried to hang himself.
According to police, officers were responding to an assault call in the 4000 block of Parkside Drive about 9 p.m. when the unidentified man started firing shots from the house. After officers heard the shots, they fell back and surrounded the Northeast Baltimore house, police said.
Agent Donny Moses, a city police spokesman, said it appears the man may have shot the woman during a domestic dispute. He said the unidentified man and woman had two "very young children" together, though it was unclear if the couple were married. The children had been sent out of the house before police entered.
Officers stormed the house around midnight after police were unable to contact anyone inside, Moses said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the unconscious man was transported to an area hospital. His condition was not available early this morning.
The part of the city where the home is located was misidentified in an earlier version of this story. The Baltimore Sun regrets the error.
