Gov. Martin O'Malley has ordered the Maryland flag lowered to half-staff today to honor Lt. James E. Bethea, a 40-year Baltimore firefighter who lost his life last week in an East Baltimore row house fire.

A Baltimore County Circuit Court judge sentenced Jeffrey Shiflett, 35, to life without the possibility of parole Wednesday for the 2013 murder of Katie Hadel, 33, who lived in Reisterstown.
