After a brutal winter of avoiding icy streets and snowplows, Maryland drivers are now dealing with massive potholes in their path.
But what should you do if you encounter one?
State Highway Administration Spokesman Charlie Gischlar said motorists can report potholes for the state's numbered roads on the SHA's website. Gischlar said on average the state spends about $2.8 million statewide on pothole repair.
William Johnson, Baltimore's transportation director, said city inspectors are out on the streets looking for potholes, but residents who spot them should call 311.
Here are some contacts for local municipalities should you encounter a crater in the roadway:
- Annapolis: 410-263-7967
- Anne Arundel County: 410-222-7045
- Baltimore City: 311
- Baltimore County: 410-887-3560
- Carroll County: 410-386-6717
- Harford County: 410-638-3376
- Howard County: 410-313-7450
Of course,if you're going to report a pothole, be sure you're doing it with a hands-free device or after pulling to the side of the road.
