Navy Seaman Chris Chambers, son of Kevin and Lois Chambers of Bowie, and Navy Seaman Recruit Othneil Hercules, son of Othneil and Andrea Hercules of Bowie, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Chambers and Hercules completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
Hercules is a 2010 graduate of St. Marys High School, Annapolis.
Kevin Fink of Bowie recently graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N.Y., with a degree in logistics and intermodal transportation. During his academy career, he spent one year as a deck cadet, aboard cargo and tanker vessels, traveling to Germany, England, Belgium, Israel, Spain, Gibraltar, Columbia and many U.S. ports. He completed U.S. Army Air Assault training, was a member of the rugby team and had the honor of designing the class ring.
Fink was commissioned as an ensign in the Naval Reserves, Strategic Sea Lift Command; and is employed as a deck officer, 3rd Mate, aboard a tanker with Overseas Shipping Group.
Fink, a 2008 Bowie High graduate, is an Eagle Scout from American Legion Disney-Bell Post 66, and a member of that organization.
