Police investigate shooting on Arundel Mills roadway

Anne Arundel police are investigating a shooting Tuesday morning near Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover.

Police believe the shooting occurred sometime between 7:20 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Arundel Mills Boulevard heading toward Route 100. The victim left the scene and went to a Glen Burnie residence where police were initially called, Lt. T.J. Smith, an agency spokesman said.

"There was a bit of a language barrier so he went home to have another family member assist him in translating," Smith said.

Ultimately, it was relayed to police that the victim had just gotten gas from the nearby Costco gas station. The victim was driving when someone in the vehicle beside him opened fire, Smith said.

The victim suffered a potential grazing wound or an injury from broken glass, however, did not require medical treatment Smith said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police were not releasing any information about the suspect or the other vehicle involved.

Police believe the incident to be targeted, though the circumstances surrounding why the shooter opened fire remained unknown Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that the incident was related to road rage, but have also not ruled out other theories, Smith said.

An investigation remains ongoing.

Additional information was not immediately available Tuesday afternoon.
