Man injured in Annapolis double shooting dies

Annapolis police say one of the two people involved in a double shooting Monday morning in Annapolis has died.

Police said at 7:40 a.m. Monday, officers were called to an apartment in the 1100 block of Madison St. for a report of a shooting. Police found a 49-year-old woman and a man, later identified as Tony Smith, 54, suffering from gun shot wounds. Both were transported R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with what police described as potentially life-threatening injuries.

Smith later died from his wounds. The woman, later identified as Arthurdella Harris, was in surgery Monday afternoon, according to police.

Police said both resided at the apartment where the shooting occurred and were in a long-term relationship. Police said an initial investigation suggests Smith may have shot Harris twice, then shot himself.

Police are asking that anyone with additional information call Detective John Murphy at 410-268-9000, ext. 7268, or email jhmurphy@annapolis.gov.
