A 39-year-old man was found guilty Wednesday of sexually abusing a teenage girl in Crofton between 2010 and 2012, according to the county's State's Attorney's Office.
John Michael Winner was found guilty of one count of sex abuse of a minor and four counts of second-degree forcible rape, according to a news release. The State's Attorney's Office had alleged that over a two-year span between spring 2010 and late fall 2012, Winner abused the girl at two Crofton residences.
Winner has denied the charges, according to The Capital.
The victim, who was 14 when the abuse started, told authorities there were two instances where she was groped by Winner and four incidents in which he raped her as she struggled to get away.
The trial in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis began Tuesday and ended Wednesday afternoon. The jury reached a verdict within three hours, officials said.
"It took tremendous courage for this young woman to come forward and face her abuser," State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said. "At trial, the state asked the jurors to end her nightmare. We are happy with this verdict and hope it will do just that."
Winner faces jail time that would total more than 100 years. Sentencing is scheduled for July 30 at 9 a.m.
