Several injured in car crash in Edgewater

A car crash involving three vehicles late Saturday in Edgewater injured several people, Anne Arundel County police said.

The crash occurred about 10 p.m. Saturday at Solomon's Island Road and Virgina Avenue, police said. Police did not disclose the exact number of people injured but said their injuries were not life threatening. Some of those injured were taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The police officers are currently investigating what caused the crash. Police said more details may be released later Sunday.

Meanwhile, Anne Arundel County police also reported Sunday that a bicyclist was hurt when he was stuck by a car Saturday near Southern High School in Harwood. Police said the car hit the bicyclist when it traveled into the shoulder of the Solomon's Island Road. Police said the driver was distracted by his passengers. The crash caused the bicyclist to fall off his bike and hit a guardrail.

The bicyclist was taken to Shock Trauma, where he is expected to be released Sunday.
