Southbound Interstate 97 in Millersville is shut down for a multi-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon.
Six vehicles were involved in the crash at 12:45 p.m. in a work zone near New Cut Road, according to Division Chief Keith Swindle, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
Three people were injured in the crash, including a 45-year-old man who was taken by ambulance to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Two other people were treated at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, Swindle said.
A second crash with two injuries was reported in the southbound lanes at Quarterfield Road, north of the first crash, Swindle said.
Further information was not immediately available. Police are investigating the crashes, and Wednesday afternoon Swindle cautioned drivers to avoid Interstate 97.
