One man dead in Anne Arundel County house fire

A man was found dead inside of a burning home in Deale early Thursday morning, Anne Arundel County fire officials said.

The fire broke out in the single-family home in the 600 block of East Marshall Avenue around 1 a.m., fire department spokesman Keith Swindle said. The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and officials called for two alarms, getting assistance from fire departments in Calvert and Prince George's counties and Annapolis.

Firefighters found a deceased man when they searched the home. The man has not yet been identified. No one else was injured and the fire was under control within an hour.

It was the first fatal fire this year in Anne Arundel County.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation, as is the identity of the body that was found, said Swindle, who added that investigators have ruled out the possibility that the fire was intentionally set. It was not immediately clear if the home had smoke alarms, and the damage to the home was estimated at $65,000.
