A woman unsuccessfully tried to rob a Lothian gas station Friday morning, and a suspect who was arrested bit a detective, Anne Arundel County Police said.
Police said they were called to a BP gas station at 5423 Southern Maryland Blvd. around 8:30 a.m. and told that a white woman wearing a green sweatshirt and sunglasses had passed a note to employees in an attempt to rob the business. The woman left without obtaining any currency, and two employees working at the time were not injured, police said.
A customer had seen the suspect getting into a red Chevrolet Cavalier and provided police with a license plate number, officials said. The vehicle was found around 9:15 a.m. at Sands Road and Mt. Zion Marlboro Road, but without the suspect, police said. Police identified a suspect and located her, placing her under arrest and transporting her to the Criminal Investigation Unit, officials said.
Police said the suspect became violent and assaulted an officer and several detectives — one of whom was bitten by her. Police identified the suspect as Sherry L. Hunt, 29, of the 1700 block of Forestville Road, Edgewater. She was charged with attempted robbery and assault of officers.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Keane of the Criminal Investigation Division, Robbery Unit at 410-222-3489.
