A 38-year-old man was killed when his van struck a tractor-trailer in Annapolis late Thursday night, Maryland State Police said.
The driver, identified as Michael Lee Sampson, was eastbound on MD 50 near exit 22 at about 11:40 p.m. when he rear-ended a freightliner, according to police. He had to be extricated from the van and was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Another serious crash on MD 50 just a couple hours before, involving multiple vehicles and a tractor-trailer, sent four people to local hospitals, with one man also flown to Shock Trauma with life-threatening injuries. Maryland State Police said the man was still alive on Friday morning.
