Annapolis Senior Activity Center members can sign up for a trip to Parade Land and Jubilee in the Shenandoah Valley on Oct. 6 and to the Allenberry Dinner Theater in Boiling Springs, Pa., on Oct. 19. The Parade Land trip features a fantasy land of floats and props used in presidential inaugurations, Rose Bowl parades and Macy's Thanksgiving Day parades. The tour will stop for lunch at the Johnny Appleseed Restaurant. Cost of the trip is $85. The O'Malley Senior Activity Center is sponsoring a trip to see the musical "Me and My Girl" at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater in Lancaster, Pa., on Oct. 12. The bus leaves the center at 9:45 a.m. and returns at 5:15 p.m. The cost of $82 includes a buffet lunch. A $25 deposit is required now, with the balance due Sept. 13. Volunteer grandparents The Foster Grandparents Program of the county Department of Aging and Disabilities seeks volunteer grandparents to mentor children with special needs. Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week, providing mentoring, tutoring, advice and attention. Volunteers also teach life skills to children in special education classes and provide staffing for a homeless shelter, family support center and other agencies. Activities may include reading stories, listening, helping children feed themselves, setting the table, working with puzzles, and helping children learn colors, numbers and the alphabet. Volunteers must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, vacation, sick leave, free transportation, lunch and a physical exam.
