Auditions

Workshops for adults

Adults can explore their creative side in one-day workshops at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, 801 Chase St. in Annapolis. Workshops are for a variety of skill levels.

•Introduction to Yoga. Workshop explores basic yoga breathing, physical postures and relaxation. 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11. $15 tuition, $25 membership, $10 registration.

•Precious Metal Clay: Pendants and Earrings. Workshop teaches fundamental techniques of working in precious metals and clay while creating a custom-designed pendant and a pair of earrings. 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11. $65 tuition, $25 membership, $10 registration.

•Painting with Fire. Workshop teaches techniques to make enamel beads and pendants. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18. $90 tuition, $25 membership, $10 registration.

•Fused-Glass Dish. Participants learn glass-cutting and fusing basics to create a colorful and functional glass bowl or plate. 6:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. June 23. $35 tuition, $25 membership, $10 registration.

•Wheel Workshop. Introduction to the potter's wheel, where participants learn how to wedge and center the clay, and how to throw two basic forms: the bowl and the cylinder. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 24. $40 tuition, $25 membership, $10 registration.

•The Clothed Figure in Pastel. Workshop focuses on the basics of capturing the attitude of the figure using pastels. Instruction covers the use of color, line and body proportion in capturing the figure. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25. $90 tuition, $25 membership, $10 registration fee.

•Fused-Glass Jewelry. Teaches students how to create glass components for jewelry. Students make necklace pendants, earrings, bracelets, pins, rings and cabochons. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25. $85 tuition, $25 membership, $10 registration.

Ahoy!

"Pirate Adventures on the Chesapeake," a themed event for children, returns for another season in Annapolis harbor. Children can get their faces painted, dress as pirates and participate in a treasure hunt on the water. Search for sunken treasure while using water cannons in defense against enemy pirates. Golf tournament

Archbishop Spalding High School will host the annual Lt. James H. Love Memorial Golf Tournament at the Queenstown Harbor Golf Courses on Thursday, June 9. The tournament was established to honor Love, a 1977 Spalding graduate and Navy pilot lost during Operation Desert Shield. Golfers can register in foursomes or individually. Cost includes greens fees, a bag filled with gifts, lunch and dinner catered by Adam's Ribs of Eastport. 'Recycle Forward'

Hillsmere Elementary School in Annapolis is participating in a program that recycles used technology to raise money for new technology. There is a donation drive through the end of the school year for used cell phones, inkjet and laser cartridges, laptops, PDAs, iPods, MP3 players, video games, GPS systems, DVDs, calculators, LCD monitors and digital cameras. "Recycle Forward" is a joint effort between "Cartridges for Kids," a recycling program that pays cash to schools, and Digital Wish, a nonprofit that puts technology into the hands of educators. The Anne Arundel Volunteer Center has released a Youth Resource Guide, which provides information about nonprofit and faith-based organizations in the county. Register your bike

The Annapolis Police Department is sponsoring a bicycle registration program. The owner's name, address, phone number and the bike's serial number, manufacturer and color are recorded in the department's database. Any Annapolis resident can register a bike. Neighborhood associations should contact Medley if they want to hold a community registration.

Law Enforcement Explorers

The Annapolis Police Department Law Enforcement Explorer Post 199 is accepting applications. Law Enforcement Exploring is a program for those who have completed eighth grade and are 14 to 20 years old. The program offers information on career activities. Meetings are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at police headquarters, 199 Taylor Ave. in Annapolis. Information: 410-268-9000 or at the office.

Doll collection

Fingerprinting service

The Annapolis Police Department offers a fingerprinting service at 199 Taylor Ave. from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays. Service will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of the month. The fee is $5 per fingerprint card, and the person being printed must supply the cards. Check or money order only. Tours of historic house

The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society has opened the historic Benson-Hammond House and North Browse and Buy Shoppe at Aviation Boulevard and Andover Road in Linthicum for the season. Tours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays. Group tours are by appointment. The Kuethe Library for Historical and Genealogical Research, 5 Crain Highway S.E., operated jointly with the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays year-round. Guided arboretum walks

On Saturdays through November, visitors can explore Adkins Arboretum's diverse plant communities on a guided walk led by a naturalist. Explore the bottomland forest and upland paths, meander through beech trees, traverse native meadows and follow the narrow Tuckahoe Creekside. The 11 a.m. walks are free for members and free with admission for the public. The hour-long tours begin at the visitors center. Information: 410-634-2847.

'Soup 'n Walk'

Adkins Arboretum offers its "Soup 'n Walk" program on Saturday, June 18, at 12610 Eveland Road near Tuckahoe State Park in Ridgely. Following a guided walk through the arboretum's forest, meadows and wetland, participants can enjoy lunch along with a brief lesson about the meal's nutritional value. Copies of recipes will be provided. Interested persons can register for either a one- or two-hour walk to see lady fern, cinnamon fern, New York fern, Christmas fern, netted chain fern, Indian cucumber, bluets, blackberry, deerberry, and arrowwood blooms. Menu features light and fresh vegetable soup, gingered cantaloupe with kiwi, double oat bread with wild blueberry jam, and red, white and blue trifle. Cost is $25 per person, $20 for members.
