Garden tour The 11th annual Secret Garden Tour, sponsored by the Hammond-Harwood House, will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. More than 10 private gardens will be on display in the neighborhood along Spa Creek. Proceeds benefit the education and restoration programs of Hammond-Harwood House. Tickets are $30. Art show Artists are invited to bring up to two pieces of their work art for display in "Heliotrope Bouquet 13," an open, all-media exhibit taking place beginning June 10 and continuing through July 13 at Anne Arundel Community College's Cade Center for Fine Arts Gallery, 1010 College Parkway in Arnold. There is no juror for this show and no entry fee. All work entered will be displayed. Participants should bring ready-to-display pieces of art not previously exhibited at the gallery. Artwork can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, June 7-8. Artwork may be matted and framed. Unmatted work will be pinned to the wall. Strawberry festival The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society will hold its annual Strawberry Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Benson-Hammond House, 7101 Aviation Blvd. in Linthicum. Jazz series The Sachs Memorial Summer Jazz Series kicks off at 6 p.m. June 22 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, 801 Chase St. in Annapolis, with the Unified Jazz Ensemble. July 4 The Shady Side community celebrates Independence Day beginning with a parade at 10 a.m., sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, followed by a concert at 1 p.m. with the Bay Winds Band at the Captain Salem Avery Museum, 1418 E. Boot camps The Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis is sponsoring "Navy Way" boot camps on Saturday, July 16. Basic Boot Camp will be held in the morning and Advanced Boot Camp in the afternoon. Registration deadline is July 6. Basic Boot Camp runs from 10 a.m. to noon for recruits ages 6-12. Recruits are issued a sailor's cap, learn Navy terms, march, chant, follow orders and eat in a simulated mess hall. Cost is $36 and includes a Dixie cup cap, boot camp, lunch and a certificate of participation, which each recruit receives at graduation.

Advanced Boot Camp runs from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is for graduates of Basic Boot Camp who are between ages 9 and 12. They will take seamanship training (tying knots), learn how to use semaphore flags and march in precision drill. Cost is $36 (with cap) or $41 (if purchasing a new cap) and includes all training materials. Graduates attain the rank of Swabbie 1st Class and receive a certificate of participation and a button for their Dixie cup at graduation.

Groups of 10 or more will be assigned a personal Boot Camp Commander, but a group reservation must be made three weeks in advance. Scouts who declare their pack number on the reservation form, whether signing up as an individual or as part of a group, will receive a patch.

Crab feast The Rotary Club of Annapolis will hold its annual crab feast from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. The all-you-can-eat-and-drink affair includes large and No. 1 male crabs, Maryland crab soup, corn on the cob, beef barbecue, hot dogs, draft beer, sodas and water. A bake sale and cake raffle will be held. Advance tickets are $60, $20 for children ages 3 to 12, and free for those younger than 3. Buy tickets via http://www.annapolistickets.com or 877-333-9667 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Online and telephone sales end at noon July 31. Tickets will be available for $75 at the stadium box office starting at 4 p.m. Aug. 5.

Benefit The Second Annual "Be Great 5K Run & Fun Walk" to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County will take place on Aug. 20 at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. The run will kick off at 9:15 a.m. and every pre-registered runner and walker will receive a T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest runner in several age categories. Refreshments will be served after the race. Registration is $25 before Aug. 1, $30 after. Register online at bgcaa.org or on-site at the Red Maple Pavilion starting at 8:30 a.m. the day of the race. There is also a "Couch Potato" category for anyone who wants to register and stay home.
