The reputed leader of the growing prison gang Dead Man Inc. has been transferred from state prison to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center to face murder charges in the beating death of fellow inmate in 1994.
Though the indictment remains sealed, officials at the Jennifer Road Detention Center say Perry Roark is being held without bond. Court officials confirmed the bail review hearing had taken place Tuesday morning after he was taken before a District Court commissioner. A recording of the hearing was not available Wednesday.
Law enforcement authorities describe the 42-year-old as a founder of the gang, which was started for white inmates in the late 1990s and has grown rapidly across the country.
Roark, serving a 25-year prison sentence for a 1991 robbery, was set to be released Tuesday, but state police and Anne Arundel prosecutors turned back the clock on his sentence with the 17-year-old murder charge in the killing of fellow inmate George Hartman.
