Anne Arundel firefighters battle large brush fire in Glen Burnie

Anne Arundel County firefighters battled merging brush fires Friday afternoon in Glen Burnie that stretched for a mile.

Division Chief Michael Cox said at about 3:30 p.m. that the blaze near Route 100 between Interstate 97 and Route 170 was contained. He said it appeared that no one had been injured and that the blaze touched no buildings but may have reached a construction site.

The fire may have started as a number of small spot fires and spread, he said.

Valerie Burnette Edgar, spokeswoman for the State Highway Administration, said that at about 6:30 p.m. the right lane of westbound Route 100 remained closed due to the fire, but the other westbound lanes were open.
