Medical helicopter makes abrupt landing at BWI

A private medical helicopter made an abrupt landing at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport early Saturday.

The incident around 7 a.m. caused no injuries and did not disrupt air traffic, though the helicopter had been carrying a patient who was transferred to a local hospital, according to BWI spokesman Jonathan Dean.

He said the helicopter, operated by LifeNet Health, was a BK 117 model based in Delaware. Dean did not immediately have details about where the helicopter had been going or where it was coming from. Mechanical problems caused the landing, he said.
