Luncheon series Genevieve Kaplan, education and public programs manager of the Banneker-Douglass Museum, is the featured speaker at the Shady Side Rural Heritage Society's Winter Luncheon Series at the Captain Salem Avery House Museum, 1418 E. West Shady Side Road. The series runs at 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays through Feb. 16, and features a speaker on historical and cultural subjects. Admission is $85 for the series; individual luncheons $17. Maritime seminar series The Annapolis Maritime Museum's Maritime Seminar Series continues with John Laurence Busch, author of "Steam Coffin." Weekly seminars take place at 7 p.m. Thursdays at the museum, 723 Second St. in Annapolis. Cost for members is $60 per person for the full series or $10 per seminar; $95 or $15 for nonmembers. Family day The Annapolis Maritime Museum presents "Family Day" from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 723 Second St. Program is geared to parents with children in grades 1-6. Each session will have four stations where participants can learn about Chesapeake Bay ecology and the roles played by oysters, horseshoe crabs and watermen. Boot camp The Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis is holding Basic and Advanced Boot Camps on Saturday, Feb. 19. Basic runs 10 a.m. to noon; advanced is 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The boot camps give kids an opportunity to learn Navy terms, march, chant and follow orders. Gala The Rotary Club of Annapolis hosts "Black Tie and Diamonds" from 6 p.m. to midnight March 5 at the Westin Annapolis Hotel on Westgate Circle in Annapolis. Event includes a cocktail hour, silent and live auctions, a raffle, dinner and dancing to the music of Millennium. Tickets are $150 per person, $1,500 for a table of 10.
